For a long time, I was perfectly content with the idea of navigating life solo. I hadn't dated in quite a while, and my single life suited me just fine. But when I joined a women’s Bible study in Austin, TX, my new friends naturally started asking about my dating life. I playfully told them, "If God wants me to be in a relationship, He will have to deliver a man straight to my front doorstep with my name tattooed on his forehead so I know for sure." Naturally, the ladies immediately added my love life to their prayer list!
On the last day of our study for the year, one of the women came up to me, buzzing with excitement. She told me she had just met the nicest young man who had been doing some plumbing work at her house, and she insisted I just had to meet him. She described him in detail and gave me his name. I told her that if she could arrange a meeting, I’d be open to it.
Life got busy, and I ended up traveling out of town for the next two months. I didn't hear any more about the mystery plumber, but when I finally came back home, I discovered I had several plumbing issues of my own that needed fixing. I reached out to Larelle, my parents' house manager, and asked if she could help me get a plumber over to the house.
When the plumber arrived, I couldn't help but be a little annoyed with Larelle—she didn't warn me he was going to be so cute! I had just finished a workout class, so I was sweaty, my hair was thrown up in a messy bun, and I didn't have a stitch of makeup on. If I had known, I definitely would have tried to present myself a little better! His name was Billy. He was incredibly nice, and I could immediately feel a spark of chemistry between us. However, he was such a consummate professional that it was hard to read whether or not he was interested.
After he left, it suddenly clicked. I told Larelle that I was almost positive Billy was the exact same plumber my friend from Bible study had been raving about months ago! Larelle, being the amazing woman she is, immediately went into matchmaking mode. She made it her mission to find out if Billy was single and cleverly managed to get him my phone number.
Not long after, Billy reached out and asked me on a coffee date. As it turns out, he didn't have my name tattooed on his forehead, but God really did deliver the perfect man right to my front door.
